Benjamin son of Thomas & Marcy Rice of Hanover VA

Gen 2 Benjamin Rice ?
Birth
Death
Parents Thomas Rice Marcy

We know of his existence by Benjamin being listed by David's grandson David (son of David's son Benjamin) is one of his grandfather's brothers. Since its the same name as his father and one would assume his father was named after that uncle I assume this was accurate. Also the name Benjamin abounds in the family indicating the existence of a son Benjamin. Many trees have gone through contortions to create a time line and location for him. Some are downright bizarre and have been copied many times in ancetry.com. There are a number of Rices that do not belong in this family tree.

Is he the Benjamin Rice who died in 1786 Bedford, VA? No documentation found related to this person's death

Benjamin Rice in 1755 in Granville, NC with a inventory of estate 1763. The tax indicated he was the only adult male. He bought and sold no land including grant deeds. That would be very unusual in the land mad Rice family. He left no will - just an inventory with no mention of family. Around 20 years later a Thomas Rice appears in that county which is the only other Rice in that period. That Thomas could be the son of the Craven county Benjamin which we have excluded.

Benjamin Rice July 12, 1745. September Court, 1745. Will Craven County wife Mary His 6 youngest sons to inherit when they turned 19. He looks like a really good candidate but some trees have him as the son of an Evan/Ethan Rice b. 1660 England and Elizabeth Clevely Dare daughter of Nathaniel Dare & Mary Cleverly in Calvert County, MD. Elizabeth has a second husband Robert Widdrington. Robert Widdrington will mentions Benjamin Rice personally with no explanation as to relationship likely supporting that he is a stepson. She and her husband went to Craven. At this point the MD family look much more likely than Thomas and Marcy since he named a son Claverly. The Maryland Rice are not connected as proven by Y-DNA test.
