North Carolina Records starting 1768

• It is very difficult if not impossible to place all the grandchildren of Thomas with the appropiate son. the children of Zebediah, Warnel, and Elisha. Joshua moved away so his family is easy to separate. We know Nancy Stickstill born 1787 who married Richard Hull said her parents were Elisha Stockstill and Rachel Gladman and that Zebediah Stockstilll who signed her marriage bond was her uncle. I placed Nancy and Abigail as children of Warnel and wife Nancy based on census records showing all 3 women living together. The 1800 census shows Zebediah, Warnel and Rachel living near each other. So this is who is number listed in 1800. Some of the older boys Zebidiah listed in 1790 May have left home like Thomas? David could be a son of Zebedee that has moved away or a son of Elisha and Rachel. Mary would be a daughter of Elisha and Rachel if Abigail and Nacy are daughter of Warnel. But what of Hannah and Elizabeth - if their birth dates are correct. Nancy who married Richard Hull 1as born 1787 and the other 2 born 1788. Yet only 1 shows up in the census. Of course census can have errors or if thier father was Elisha and he was dead they could have lived with others. There are other males born 1790-1800 who are unidentified.

• Nancy Ann Stockstill said her father was Elisha "Lish" and her mother was Rachel Gladman. Nancy's marriage bond is signed by Zebedee as bondsman but it states her father approved but their is no signature in the parent place. Elisha does not show up in any census and I do not know if he died young and she lived with one of her uncles or Elisha was not in the census for some other reason. Zebedee's son Elisha seems too young for the Lincoln Co. records and perhaps the ones in Madison Co. Nancy's spouse Richard Hull lived near the Stockstills in Lincoln Co. NC.
• One of the strange things is that many of the Warren Co. Stockstills list MD as their birthplace when most of the Stockstills were already in NC.
